Looking to go green while generating revenue for your salon? These natural beauty products might be the solution.
Your clients are often on the lookout for outstanding natural beauty products. Perhaps it’s because they want to lower their carbon footprint. Maybe they feel that non-toxic ingredients are better for their hair. Or maybe it’s just peer pressure from their friends. Regardless of their reason, going green is a great look, and for beauty businesses, it’s a profitable one. Thankfully, many excellent brands and stepping up to offer unique products you can stock at your location. To celebrate Earth Day, let’s highlight a few of our favorites.
Aveda
Based out of Toronto, Aveda is currently one of the leaders in natural beauty products. Its line-up covers all the categories; the brand specializes in hair, skin, and body care solutions that are sustainable, plant-based, cruelty-free, and ethically sourced. In fact, Aveda is so committed to its green philosophy that its factories are wind-powered!
Aveda claims to be the first beauty company to use 100% post-consumer recycled petroleum jelly in its products. What’s more, the vast majority of its ingredients are naturally sourced — and will never come from locations where animal testing is the norm. If your clients are looking for that extra dedication to its principles, Aveda is an excellent brand to try out.
100% Pure
As an industry term, “natural” can be somewhat vague. In the interest of forthrightness and transparency, 100% Pure added this definition to its website: “An ingredient or formula composed of plant, mineral, and/or marine vegetation that undergoes chemical changes due to biological processes such as fermentation, distillation, and cold processing.”
This guiding principle manifests in several ways — from sourcing ingredients from fruits and vegetables to ensuring harmful substances aren’t part of its products. In all cases, 100% of Pure’s products are USDA organic certified, including hair, body, and skincare products. Whether you’re looking for eye scrubs, moisturizers, or cosmetics, 100% is worth your attention.
oVertone
The market for natural alternatives to traditional hair products is bigger than ever, and oVertone is proof of that. Its goal is to stop making clients choose between vibrant color and hair protection. The result is a semi-permanent dye alternative that won’t fade and looks great.
As part of its hair coloring formula, oVertone prioritizes natural ingredients — particularly plant-based oils. Coconut oil, linseed oil, jojoba oil, evening primrose oil, and even avocado oil nourish your hair, while items like aloe vera and shea butter condition and strengthen it. Even better, all ingredients are vegan, organic, and ethically sourced.
Zoya
Nail polishes are categorized a little differently from other natural beauty products because they cannot be entirely “natural.” Instead, salons classify polishes by how “toxin-free” they are. On this front, Zoya is easily one of the best natural polishes on the market. This brand was an early pioneer for 5-free polishes — without toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or DBP — that were still long-lasting. Zoya continues to win awards in the beauty space, and its products deserve consideration.
Increasingly, doing the right thing can also be what drives revenue. By offering and using these products in your salon, you’ll be making the world a little bit greener — in more ways than one.
