Restoring Dignity Through Personal Care with Project Beauty Share

Earlier this year, to commemorate the 8th anniversary of its founding, Boulevard launched a new corporate giving initiative called Causes that Matter. The idea behind it is simple: throughout 2024, Boulevard will celebrate eight incredible causes changing how the world thinks about self-care. In addition to spotlighting them here on our blog, Boulevard will directly donate to each cause or organization. Self-care is an industry like no other made up of people like no other, and these organizations are a testament to the heart, courage, and spirit of this amazing community.
The initiative kicked off in February, when, in conjunction with Black History Month, Boulevard highlighted the important work of The Confess Project of America to foster mental health advocacy in the African American Barber and Beauty industry. It was also our honor to have the organization’s founder, Lorenzo P. Lewis, join our team for an intimate Lunch and Learn presentation.
This month, in celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re thrilled to highlight our next Cause that Matters — Project Beauty Share, a remarkable non-profit organization shining a light on the transformative power of beauty. Its mission is as simple as it is profound: to collect and distribute personal hygiene, cosmetics, and beauty products to other non-profit organizations serving women and families overcoming poverty, addiction, homelessness, and abuse.
Let’s face it: for those of us who enjoy unfettered access to the growing world of self-care products and professionals, it can be easy to take personal care and hygiene for granted. Unfortunately, many don’t have that luxury, and the toll it takes is significant. Lack of access to adequate self-care and hygiene products not only impacts personal appearance, but more importantly, one’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and general sense of self-worth and well-being. Project Beauty Share isn't just about personal care and hygiene; it's about restoring dignity, inspiring confidence, and sharing what we take for granted with those in need.
Project Beauty Share was founded in 2010 by Julie Farley, a professional makeup artist and self-care business owner. Julie saw a gap in support services for women experiencing homelessness or poverty and understood the potentially transformative impact of providing access to desperately needed personal care and beauty products. More than a decade later, Project Beauty Share has grown from serving a handful of local non-profit organizations to serving more than 100 agencies in the Northwest while also running a national program that partners with 15 cities nationwide.
The organization provides women in need with many of the personal care essentials we take for granted: facial care products such as moisturizers, cleansers, and sunscreen; body care essentials such as soap, deodorant, and razor blades; oral care products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and dental floss; hair care essentials such as shampoo and conditioner; as well as everyday basics such as makeup products, Q-tips, cotton swabs, and feminine hygiene products. No one should ever go through each day without access to self-care essentials.
One of the things we love about this organization is that it offers so many ways to give and makes it super easy for anyone to get involved. Easy, but impactful. So this month, please join Boulevard in supporting Project Beauty Share: make a donation, buy an item off their Amazon wishlist, or share this post to spread the news about this important organization. Remember, self-care isn’t just about looking your best, it’s about feeling your best, and about the sense of hope and empowerment that comes with it.
